The SVT - honoring our WTTU members from across Europe was held on April, 9th, 2011 in the beautiful city of Cascais, Portugal.
Grand Master Soon Ho Lee and Grand Master Nominee, Chief Master In Ho Lee welcomed students and instructors from Holland, Scotland, Portugal and Spain to participate in a day filled with many exciting events. This monumental event marked the first time that the Grand Master of Songahm had paid an official visit to Europe.
The day of excitement began with a black belt testing where over 50 black belts from across Europe tested in front of Grand Master Soon Ho Lee, Grand Master Nominee, Chief Master In Ho Lee and Senior Master Rick Abair.
After the impressive displays of testing's were completed it was on to an even more impressive display of instruction by Grand Master Soon Ho Lee. Grand Master and Chief Master led a dynamic workout for over 200 extremely excited WTTU students! After the workout students lined up to sign the petitions endorsing Chief Master In Ho Lee as their next Grand Master.
The workout definitely got all "warmed up" for the next event, the black belt tournament. Black belts from across Europe competed under the watchful eyes of Grand Master Lee. The competition was at its best and proved that the Songahm spirit is alive and flourishing in Europe.
Following the tournament came the event all had been waiting for, the official Songahm Vision tour ceremony. As the dvd presentation played the Scrolls of Songahm, Chief Master In Ho Lee lit his candle from the flame of Grand Master Soon Ho Lee, followed by Sr. Master Abair. The school and club owners then lit their candles from the seniors and returned to light the candles of the other black belts. All participants were invited to take home the SVT candle to spread the knowledge of Songahm throughout their communities. Concluding the ceremonial part of the Songahm Vision Tour was the sounding of the gong by Ms. Hannah Higgins of Scotland.
After great words of encouragement from Chief Master In Ho Lee came an impromptu demonstration by Grand Master Lee. Grand Master commented on his age and the importance to all of staying active at all ages to keep your skills sharp. Mr. Daniel Rosito, of Portugal was called upon by Grand Master to assist with the demonstration of speed and flexibility. As Grand Master detailed exactly what he was going to demonstrate to the audience, it happened. In the blink of an eye, a lightening quick twist quick was executed towards the side of Mr. Rosito's neck. Many blinked and missed the kick, that's how fast it was. A very impressive technique, which left the audience in silence, if only for a moment.
Following the demonstration Grand Master presented medals of honor to many of the instructors and students responsible for great achievements including the growth of Songahm in Europe. Grand Master also presented many senior ranks with a personalized calligraphy which he created and signed.
The European instructors then presented gifts of appreciation to both Grand Master and Chief Master Lee. Chief Master was presented a golf bag embroidered with the European Songahm Vision tour logo. Grand Master received a golf bag embroidered with the Songahm Vision tour logo encircled by his mantra, "There is always more to learn." Grand Master was also pleased to find a new golf putter in his bag as well!
The event ended with black belts blowing out their candles, the senior ranks signing the "Scrolls of Songahm," and group and individual photos for all. All of these events took place in one day. A monumental effort for a monumental event, Songahm!
